""Oh, do not fret for me. The cold is merciful, for it relieves our pain and numbs us before it leads us to our deaths. Perhaps the Miracle the others spoke of has come to me, here in this iron tomb, lengthening distress more and more...""

This mysterious character, a prisoner inside a metal statue in the snowy mountains of Where Olives Wilt.

Talk to him to receive the Golden Thimble, and then defeat Our Lady of the Charred Visage, and return with it, filled with oil, and give it to him. Leave the area and return, and the Frozen Olive will be found near where Gemino was standing.

Exclamation Mark
Once the Penitent One enters Where Olive Trees Wither for the first time Gemino's quest begins even if he's not talked to, making it possible to miss his questline, making it impossible to get 100% completion in the current run.

Gemino's quest has three potential outcomes, depending on when the quest is completed. Each time one of the first three bosses is defeated, Gemino will be further and further entombed within the tree, being inescapably bound to it after two (which will also prevent completing his quest):

  • If Gemino is brought the oil before he is fully entombed, and after reentering the area, he will have left and the Frozen Olive will be found in his place. Heading to the room at the base of the cliff to the entrance to the Tomb of The Lady of the Tailed Gown, the Penitent One will only find his remains and the entrance to the tomb opened. Placing the Dried Flowers Bathed in Tears on the coffin will open up access to the Saeta Dolorosa prayer.
  • If Gemino is entombed by the time he is given the oil, he will be frozen after reentering the area. The Frozen Olive will be found at his feet. The Prayer can be acquired later once the Linen of Golden Thread Relic is acquired.
  • If the Penitent One completely ignores Gemino and he becomes fully entombed, he will not give the thimble or respond. His questline becomes unavailable, making it impossible to obtain the Frozen Olive, but the Prayer can still be acquired later with the Linen of Golden Thread Relic.

Dialogue

First Encounter Contrite and humiliated be the heart, Penitent One in silence. You stand before what remains of Gémino.

Oh, do not fret for me. The cold is merciful, for it relieves our pain and numbs us before it leads us to our deaths.

Perhaps the Miracle the others spoke of has come to me, here in this iron tomb, lengthening distress more and more...

To a promised land you direct your march, to the place where the frozen and the burning embrace in communion...

Now, let my numbed arm become another branch of this withered olive tree.

Hurry up, I can still hear the call.

Missing Description. Let me ask of you the favour of bringing me a few drops of the oils that once came out of these icy olive trees, the ones that ended up scorching the faces of every pious person who ever reached the summit.

As my last wish, before it is too late for me, let me feel that pain.

Take this.

Missing Description. I feel the boiling oil entering my frigid veins.

I can still answer the call...

Missing Description. I feel the boiling oil entering my veins as it mixes with the frozen sap.

I can no longer hear the others, only the crunch of my bones, of my skin...

Frozen Olive

As Gemino traversed the path of the Frozen Olive Trees with the rest of the damned, towards the terrible hollow metal statues where those that awaited would die abandoned, he stepped barefoot on a fallen olive that had not yet disappeared under the snow. Without drawing attention, he picked it up and squeezed it in his hands, knowing it would be the last thing he'd treasure.
