"I live.

I live again in this merciless and cold metallic casing.

I live, in this cage in the shape of what was long ago my body.

I live, and I feel that I am directed by forces that undermine mine own will.

I live, although when I close my eyes in the intimate darkness behind my eyelids, I am still dead."

Lesmes, Incorrupt Sacristan is a boss from Blasphemous 2 located in the Crown of Towers, and one of the penitents from the Archconfraternity under the service of the Miracle. He belongs to the Confraternity of Incorruptible Flesh, and guards one of the Three Regrets.

He is also accompanied by the Infanta, which turns this encounter into a three-phase bossfight.

Behaviour and Tactics[]

LESMES[]

  • Heated Thrust - Lesmes will charge towards the Penitent One, grabbing hold of his reliquary by one hand, and upon reaching him will thrust it into his face
  • Pillars of Flames - Lesmes will thrust his reliquary into the ground, causing several pillars to erupt across the arena (up to five on one side when Lesmes is at one end of the arena)
  • Flames of Ruin - Lesmes will jump into the air, hovering over the Penitent One while holding his reliquary high above him. After a brief second, he will land where the Penitent One is, causing a pillar of flame to erupt from where he hit the ground. He will repeat this 2-3 times before it ends. During phase 3, he will do this six times.
  • Control - This attack technically has three parts. Lesmes will float into the air, letting go of his reliquary as an indicator of this attack. He will then explode, leaving only his weapon and his head encased in a glass orb, although inside this orb his head will have lit on fire, with his eyes also being on fire. Six orbs will spin slowly around the orb, while the reliquary spins behind it. If the Penitent One is right next to the orb, it will instead stay in place and expand the area of the fire orbs, while also making them spin faster. If he is not close, Lesmes will move towards him, but not before expanding the area. After this part, the six orbs will stop spinning and then go back towards Lesmes. His body will then reform, with him grabbing the reliquary again, before slamming in into the ground, causing a variation of Pillars of Flames, with a pillar appearing right under him.

INFANTA[]

  • Liviana of the Blighted Blades - Infantas main method of attacking, she is able to control the blades at will, launching them at the Penitent One. These launched blades also have homing like their quick chant counterpart. A special variant is usually seen where she will launch up into the air followed by a purple afterimage and launch any of the remaining blades she has around her.
  • Rolling Blades - Infanta is able to quickly spin the blades around herself and dash across roughly half of the arena.

Strategy[]

Individually, both of the bosses attacks can usually be dashed out of (minus heated thrust which is best jumped or blocked). A majority of this fights difficulty comes from phase three, when both Lesmes and Infanta are attacking the Penitent One simultaneously. Most individual attacks are usually best dashed out of. However, when both of them are attacking at the same time, it might be best to jump and weave your way through most attacks. It is most important not to panic during this phase and think of where the enemies are and what they're doing quickly. Infanta, having the least health of the two but the harder to avoid attacks, might be more optimal to take out first.

Trivia[]

  • Lesmes was originally a boss scrapped from Blasphemous 1, who was also replaced by Quirce. This might explain the similarities of their fire attacks and also their similar background stories. Another scrapped boss that made into Blasphemous 2 is Svsona, Fermosa Fembra.
  • Lesmes derives from Adelelmus, Latinized from Germanic Adalhelm, from proto-Germanic *aþalą "nobility" & *helmaz "protection, helmet". Lesmes / Adelelmus of Burgos was a Benedictine monk and Catholic saint; his remains lie in San Lesmes Abad in Spain. Lesmes is also a Spanish surname.
