The Aserrado is a horrific entity; like many of the more alarming foes in Cvstodia, it is an embodiment of torture; in this case, the saw. Standing as a human figure sliced in half from head to groin, enshrouded by a halo and carrying a weapon made from two saw blades bolted together, this terror now seeks to bring death to all it encounters, hurling its blades forwards to assail travelers from afar.

Behaviour and Tactics[]

  • Boomerang Saw: The enemy throws his rotating weapon towards the Penitent One. After reaching him or its maximum distance, the weapon returns into the enemy.

The Aserrado is generally, but not always, stationary, often perched on a vantage point that gives it a good field of view. He has a notable blind spot above him and another directly below. Once he's spotted his target, he'll immediately hurl his weapon out towards that spot; with good timing, it's possible to evade his throw.

Despite the predictable angle of this attack, the Aserrado is a source of constant annoyance. The sawblade ignores terrain, it can hit on either its initial or return path, and does significant damage as well as a knock back.

He is very vulnerable to attacks from above or below, owing to his blind spots, and his saw boomerang can be deflected by hitting it with the Mea Culpa, opening up a chance to retaliate. Evading his throw is another option. By far the easiest way to take him out is to wait until his saw blade is on the return trip and then attack.

Trivia[]

  • The Aserrado's appearance is presumably inspired by Isaiah, a Judahite prophet, later canonized by Christians, who was sawn in half (Talmud Yevamot 49b) for his faith (Hebrews 11:37-38).
  • "Aserrado" is the past participle of the Spanish "aserrar", meaning "to saw".
